Standard and Non-Standard Physics in Neutrino Oscillations

چکیده
We analyze the impact of recent solar and atmospheric data in the determination of the neutrino oscillation parameters, taking into account that both the solar νe and the atmospheric νμ may convert to a mixture of active and sterile neutrinos. Furthermore, in the context of the atmospheric neutrino problem we discuss an extended mechanism of neutrino propagation which combines both oscillations and non-standard neutrino-matter interactions. We use the most recent neutrino data, including the 1496-day Super-K solar and atmospheric data samples, the latest SNO spectral and day/night solar data, and the final MACRO atmospheric results. We confirm the clear preference of all the data for pure-active oscillation solutions, bounding the fraction of sterile neutrino involved in oscillations to be less than 52% in the solar sector and less than 40% in the atmospheric sector, at 3σ. For the atmospheric case we also derive a bound on the total amount of non-standard neutrino-matter interactions, bounding the flavor-changing component to −0.03 ≤ ε ≤ 0.02 and the non-universal component to |ε′| ≤ 0.05.

Limit on Non-Standard Interactions from the atmospheric neutrino data
We searched for non-standard neutrino interaction with the whole atmospheric neutrino data in Super-Kamiokande I and II. Neutrino oscillations in atmospheric neutrinos as well as that in the solar and reacter neutrinos play a very important role in particle physics because they present the evedence for physics beyond the standard model. Focussing on the existing atmospheric neutrino data, they ...
متن کاملStatus of non-standard neutrino interactions.
The phenomenon of neutrino oscillations has been established as the leading mechanism behind neutrino flavor transitions, providing solid experimental evidence that neutrinos are massive and lepton flavors are mixed. Here we review sub-leading effects in neutrino flavor transitions known as non-standard neutrino interactions (NSIs), which is currently the most explored description for effects b...

In this dissertation we firstly present a brief review of the Standard Model of particle physics, focussing on aspects of the model that prove most relevant in the context of explaining the observed oscillation of neutrinos. The phenomenology of neutrino oscillations is then introduced, and different possible extensions to the Standard Model that would allow for non-zero neutrino masses, thereb...

I summarize the status of three–neutrino oscillations that follow from combining the relevant world’s data. The discussion includes the small parameters α ≡ ∆m2 sol /∆m2 atm and sin2 θ13, which characterize the strength of CP violation in neutrino oscillations, the impact of oscillation data on the prospects for probing the absolute scale of neutrino mass in ββ0ν and the robustness of the neutr...
متن کاملProbing neutrino non–standard interactions with atmospheric neutrino data
We have reconsidered the atmospheric neutrino anomaly in light of the latest data from Super–Kamiokande contained events and from Super–Kamiokande and MACRO up-going muons. We have reanalysed the proposed solution to the atmospheric neutrino anomaly in terms of non–standard neutrino–matter interactions (NSI) as well as the standard νμ → ντ oscillations (OSC). Our statistical analysis shows that...
